Chapter 1 : Offering Expression


Pada pelajaran sebelumnya dichapter 1 pada bagian A kita telah membahas tentang Suggestion Expression. Pada kesempatan ini saya akan menjelaskan bagian B mengenai Offering Expression. Here you can study about definition of offering expression, kinds an offer, accepting an offer and declining an offer


Offering help is an expression that used to offer help to someone  


Kinds of offering expression are :

1. Offering help

- Can I help you?

-  May I help you?

- What can I do for you?

- Do you need some help?

- I'll do it for you

- What should I do for you

- Would like any help?

- Let me help you


2. Offering Something

- Can I get you something to eat?

- Would you like something to eat?

- Do You like a cup of tea or coffee?

- May I give you some cakes?

- Would you like to have lunch with me?


3. Offering to friends

- Glass of orange juice

- Want some/

- Have some?

- Grab some for yourself

- What will you have/

- Why don't you have some oranges?


4. Offering to older people 

- Would you like a cup of tea, Mr. Romi?

- Should I get you a glass of mango juice?

- Can I offer you a glass of mango juice, Mrs. Raysa?


If some one give you an offer you can respond it with accepting expression and declining expression.

1. Accepting an Offer 

    There are some words that used for accepting help or offer from someone, for example:

- Yes, please

- Yes, of course

- Of course I can

- Thanks a lot

- Thank you

- I appreciated that

- That's very kind of you

- I appreciated that

- That would be very nice

- etc


2. Declining or Refusing an offer

Declining or Refusing an offering something is used to decline an offer or help from someone.For example :

- I'm sorry I can't. I have to bring it myself

- Oh, I'd love to, but I don't 

- No, thanks

- No, I really won't thanks you

- Not for me. thanks

- No, thanks. I'm not thirsty

- I appreciate that but I can do it myself


Task 1

The dialogue an offer at Kembang Restaurant :

Waitress : Good morning. Welcome to Kembang Restaurant

Mr. Siagian : Good morning. I would like to have breakfast.

Waitress : Where would like to sit, Sir?

Mr.Siagian : Ok. I will sit near the pool.

                    Hmmm. Would you give me your menu, Miss?

Waitress : Yes sir, Here you are

Mr. Siagian : Could you give me the fried rice and fried potato?

Waitress : Ok sir. Would you like something to drink?

Mr. Siagian : A cup of coffee, please

Waitress : Thanks you. I will serve it soon.
